October Walks

Sunday 7th October

Derbyshire – Nine Ladies and Robin Hood’s Stride

Moderate 10 miles

This is a fabulous walk with a great deal of variety, well worth the drive! From the delightful village of Winster we’ll head out, passing through woodlands, to Stanton Moor and the atmospheric Nine Ladies stone circle. Then on through Stanton in Peak, another beautiful village, down to the Lathkill Valley where we’ll have lunch and the promise of ice creams and other refreshments. (The ice-cream man promised he’d be there!) The highlight of the afternoon is Robin Hood’s Stride, a magnificent outcrop of gritstone (it’s an easy scramble to the top if you wish) with 360˚ commanding views. Refreshments at the Old Bowling Green pub in Winster afterwards.

Sunday 14th October

Cleobury Mortimer

Easy 9½ miles

A classic figure-of-eight walk, taking in riverside, Neen Savage village, Mawley Hall, Shakenhurst Manor, Reaside Manor Farm – all three listed - and splendid views. There are a couple of short, steepish climbs, but overall easy.

Sunday 21st October
Ombersley
Easy 10 miles

The walk follows footpaths through woodland and farmland, passing through several hamlets along the way.

Sunday 28th October

The Lenches

Easy/Moderate 10 miles

The five picturesque villages that are “The Lenches” are all mentioned in the Domesday Book. We will visit Ab, Church and Rous Lench, the latter having a pretty Norman Church and an impressive Manor House.
